Klay Thompson goodbye message: New Mavericks guard thanks Warriors fans in heartfelt farewell

Thompson became one of the NBA's greatest shooters and helped the Warriors win four titles with Stephen Curry in 13 seasons.

Over the past year, the five-time All-Star looked like he may be a Warrior for life, but his time in the Bay Area may be up.

After leaving the Bay Area for Dallas, Thompson reflected on his Warriors career. Here's his statement to the team and fans.

On Friday night, Thompson thanked the Warriors and their fans on Instagram, calling it "such an honour" to play for them.

Klay Thompson goodbye message

Thompson wanted to assist "bring as many championships as possible to the region," an aim most players share but few achieve.

"My family and I would like to thank all of the amazing people who work tirelessly to make the Warriors organisation world-class," he said. "Don't be sad it's over, be happy it happened."

Many of Thompson's former colleagues offered support. Kevin Durant labelled Thompson "A Bay Area God," and Iguodala added, "And we ain't done yet!!"

"I just want to say thank you to Klay Thompson for 13 incredible years," he added. Klay will be missed. We wish him well.
